Course description
An MBA is the internationally recognised qualification for students with business experience. Our MBA is interactive and highly participative, using a mix of lectures, seminars and case study sessions.
Additionally, online learning support material is available from our intranet. The programme will give you ideas for action, frameworks and ‘thinking tools’ that will have an immediate application in your workplace.
You will be encouraged to take a foreign language, as part of your personal development, from the range offered by the Language Centre.
The MBA also requires participation in two residential programmes during which time students can get together with those from our partner institutions. The first, in semester one of year one, is a long weekend spent outside London. The second, in semester two of year two, is normally a four day residential spent in a European location. This gives you opportunity to network and make valuable international contacts.
Career opportunities
Employment prospects are excellent. Successful students can, in addition to senior management roles, build a career in a variety of roles in consulting, marketing, finance and HRM. In this respect the personal development emphasis on the course reflects the skills in demand for flexible roles in managing across a variety of organisational cultures and functions inside multinational companies.
Typical background of applicant
Your degree/equivalent professional qualification should be in an appropriate subject equivalent to a UK Honours lower second class degree (2:2). You should also have at least four years relevant management experience. Students holding a Diploma in Management Studies at an appropriate level may be exempt from year one of the course. Applicants are normally interviewed before being offered a place.
Professional contacts/industry links
Students on the MBA qualify for associate membership of the Chartered Management Institute.
Additional notes
The two year evening programme commences in September and consists of the equivalent of the full-time programme, but customised to the requirements of the student group. Six of the units are compulsory core units, the remaining two are chosen from a range of electives. Additionally, there is a project-based dissertation, supported by a new Critical Management Enquiry/Research Methods Unit. The dissertation is equivalent to four units and must be submitted by the end of April. The project encourages students to apply the skills learnt on the programme to practical business problems. It can be undertaken in the workplace, a feature that proves attractive to sponsored students.
