Course description

The PgCert in Management, with the option to progress to the Diploma in Management Studies, is designed for those managers who want to develop and accredit their professional competence and knowledge base. Each of the three stages is described separately as course units, but together they comprise an integrated programme culminating in the award of MA in Management (or other options such as an MBA, MPA or MVA – details on these alternatives are available separately within this prospectus).

Our general management courses include associate membership of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) with the opportunity to apply for full membership when the course is completed. They are accredited by the CMI and student membership subscription to the CMI is included in the course fee. This means that when you complete your LSBU course you will also obtain a parallel CMI award at the relevant level. The professional development processes undertaken within the course are fully compatible with the CMI’s and provide the prospect of an accelerated progress towards the Chartered Manager award.

Typical background of applicant

Applicants for the Certificate in Management should be in management roles with responsibility for a team of staff and/or for managing outcomes and functions. Typically students on this course will therefore have had several years of working experience. The students usually come from a range of sectors and sizes of organisations – this is a positive benefit in allowing learning and comparison of sometimes vastly different organisational practice. The same issues apply to DMS applicants with the entry requirements referred to above.

Professional contacts/industry links

The courses are accredited by the CMI.

Dual Award: PgCert in Management.

Also includes the CMI’s Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership. The DMS also includes The Chartered Management Institute’s Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.
