Diversity and Equality
We are a unique educational institution proactively committed to creating a stimulating teaching and learning environment that values diversity, fundamental fairness, mutual respect and inclusion. Dedicated to realising the potential of our staff, students and local community we live by our vision, ‘become what you want to be’, and believe that diversity enriches our individual and collective experience, performance and achievement.
Our aim is to set objectives, milestones and targets to:
– Develop diversity and equality as a distinctive competence
– Effectively integrate diversity and equality into our corporate strategies, policies, academic curriculum, teaching delivery, learning environment and management practices
– Create an inclusive environment where differences are celebrated and everyone is valued and respected irrespective of race, gender, creed or kind
– Improve perceptions of fair treatment and equal opportunities
– Proactively develop our social responsibility agenda and make a positive contribution to the social and economic regeneration of our local community
– Be at the forefront of the Government’s access and widening participation agenda
– Develop a cutting edge, high quality teaching and research profile in the area of regeneration, community cohesion, social inclusion, diversity and equalities.
The drive for, and commitment to, diversity and equality will ensure that the University sets the standard within higher education and is recognised as an example of good practice, and that it is ‘fit for purpose’ and can more effectively meet the complex, diverse needs and aspirations of staff, students and the wider community.
