Course description
This programme reflects the standards of proficiency and educational preparation for non-medical prescribing as recommended by the Nursing Midwifery Council, The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and the Health Professions Council.
The programme recognises the specific needs of different disciplines and builds on the students’ knowledge of common pathologies. The focus is on disease management and common sequelea within a holistic treatment paradigm.
The three core units are taught concurrently with an emphasis on the development and acquisition of the competencies required to make decisions about medicines management. This includes: history taking, patient assessment, clinical reasoning, evidence-based medicine, pharmacotherapeutics, ethical and legal issues and professional accountability. Assessment strategies for the programme include: clinical portfolio, OSCE, drug calculation and pharmacology exam.
On completion of the programme, students will be competent to perform safe, effective and cost effective prescribing and meet the standards set by the professional bodies.
