Visas and entry information
Most students from outside the EEA will need a student visa to study in the UK. If you are a national of the EEA (EU plus Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein) you will not need to apply for a student visa.
In 2009 the UK Border Agency (UKBA) will be making some important changes to the immigration regulations which will affect visa nationals wishing to come to LSBU to study. The UK will be adopting the Australian-style points system, and changes to the visa application process for students will come into effect from March 2009. For further information please check www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/
LSBU is UK Border Agency-licensed as a sponsor of international students, and as such will be able to sponsor overseas students with the appropriate qualifications to study here under the new immigration regulations.
Visa application forms and advice about the visa process can be found online. In some countries it is possible to apply online for your student visa using the Visa4UK service. More information can be found at www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/Welcome.htm. You can also get application forms and information free of charge from your nearest British mission overseas hat offers a visa service, or from British Council offices. Please note that some countries have different procedures for the visa application.
To apply for your student visa you will need to provide:
– A completed visa application form (VAF1) available from www.ukvisas.gov.uk
– Your original unconditional offer letter from LSBU, or from UCAS for undergraduate courses
– Your Certificate of Acceptance from LSBU (we will send this to you once you have accepted our offer)
– Proof of your qualifications – the visa office will need to see your original certificates
– Proof that you (or your sponsor) has the available funds to afford both the course fees and your living expenses while in the UK.
