Typical background of applicant
An honours degree in a related technical discipline (at least 2:2) from a UK or international university, or practitioners with substantial commercial/ industrial experience.

Course description
The course is designed to develop the depth of technical and business knowledge necessary to enable participants to operate at the strategic levels of an organisation. Successful applicants will develop the high level skills needed to deal with a wide range of IS/IT problems that influence the viability and long-term success of organisations.
Specifically, the course aims to:
– Encourage a professional attitude to Mobile Commerce and foster employability and further career development within business IT
– Provides theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to develop strategic ICT systems within the business domain
– Develop an understanding of the strategic systems environments necessary for ICT use, application and integration to deliver business information and knowledge
– Encourage a holistic view of the analysis, design, implementation and evaluation of networked ICT systems within the internet and non-internet environments of business
– Develop an in-depth understanding of the internet, www technologies and their strategic applications for business
– Develop an understanding of the strategic capabilities of wireless technologies and the skills required to design, develop and maintain secure mobile communication systems
– Develop in-depth understanding of problems managing the introduction of innovative IT systems and different approaches used to facilitate successful integration in user organisations.

Course units in profile
Strategic Management of ICT: Identifies strategic issues in managing a resource increasingly relied upon to ensure corporate performance in a highly distributed environment. Model Driven Systems: Explores the use of object-oriented modelling methodologies, design patterns and business objects to analyse and specify business system requirements.
Perspectives of Project Management: Requires participants to work in teams developing appropriate EIS solutions within given constraints.
Advanced Networking and Database
Connectivity: Develops skills required to design and construct networked IT systems, host applications for databases and distribute them to internet and mobile devices.
Security: Examines security and privacy issues surrounding the integration of web and database technology. Mobile Software Development: Issues related to software development for wireless/mobile devices.
Managing Mobile Technologies: Develops skills for integrated wireless technology and mobile business applications within business systems.
Research Methods: Prepares participants for the Masters dissertation by inculcating an understanding of the research process and encouraging the development of research skills.
Dissertation: A major research and development project resulting in the production of a 10,000 word dissertation. Projects can be industry-based or based internally within the faculty
