Course description
The PgDip in Town Planning is the final year of the RTPI accredited undergraduate entry course and is therefore only available to students who have already studied an accredited planning degree. Students from other universities may have to study a special programme of units and transfers between universities will need to be agreed.
The course provides an opportunity to study an area of spatial planning in some depth as many of the units (modules) are within a specialist area. It includes a compulsory one week residential European field study visit and all students are expected to pay the full cost (£580 in 2008).
Career opportunities
Graduates from the programme will emerge with a range of knowledge and skills of value to potential employers. Employment prospects are excellent with demand exceeding supply. Successful planning students are likely to find jobs with local authorities, private consultants in property and planning and government agencies.
Typical background of applicant
All students on this programme will have an RTPI accredited undergraduate planning degree. Many students are studying on a part-time basis and are likely to be supported by their employers.
Professional contacts/industry links
The PgDip in Town Planning is fully accredited by the RTPI, provided students have already gained a degree from an accredited undergraduate course.
