Course description
Part of the MA Framework in Teaching and Learning Skills, Training the Teacher Trainers considers current approaches and key issues in teacher training and education. The course will develop both the practice of existing teacher educators, and provide a sound theoretical and practical basis for newer entrants. The course encourages a critical and reflective orientation towards its subject matter, and there is particular emphasis on the linking of theory and practice.
Training the Teacher Trainers comprises of three units, each of which is worth 20 credits at M level:
– Teaching, Training and Teacher Education: A unit which considers ‘generic’ elements relevant to teachertrainers from all subject areas
– Subject Specifics, Teacher-Training and the Contexts of ESOL, Literacy or Numeracy: A subject-specific unit which considers elements of training from subject-specific perspectives
– Observation of Training: A practicebased unit.
Taken together, the three units (60 credits at Masters level) make up a PgCert in LLN Teacher Education and can lead on to a PgDip or MA in LLN Teacher education. Blended provision of Training the Teacher Trainers, a mixture of face-to-face, distance and e-learning, is also available.
