Course description

An area of major importance in the prevention and detection of crime is in the use of scientific methods. These methods incorporate a range of skills from forensic investigation, psychological analysis, through to IT and decision support.

Modern crime related issues now require experts working in this field to be aware of, and if necessary to be able to integrate, different scientific approaches for the detection and prevention of crime. This course offers a unique blend of subjects that will link computer science and IT with forensic science, psychology and law.

The course aims to produce postgraduate professionals who are either already working in areas of crime prevention and detection, or who may wish to make a career move into one of these areas.

Career opportunities

The course has been developed in close association with the MPS Crime Academy and, as such, is driven by the experience and knowledge of this institution. A successful graduate would have excellent career opportunities within the public or private sectors either directly related to law enforcement or in a support role.

Additional notes

This MSc is a collaborative venture between three faculties at LSBU and is supported by relevant and up-todate faculty research in each of the respective areas. All of the lecturers associated with the course are experts within their respective fields. There may also be opportunities for PhD scholarships following completion of the course, which would be supported by the Centre for KBS and Crime Science. The research in this Centre is already supported by external funding and is rapidly becoming a centre of excellence in this area.
