Course description
Through lectures, workshops, seminars and tutorials, this course encourages creative and reflective pedagogy and will develop your sensitivity to, and awareness of, current educational issues. School-based training activities include: classroom teaching, self-evaluation, personal tutorials, action planning and target setting. Collaboration with other students using online tools is also encouraged.
The course is designed to prepare you to meet the challenge of teaching mathematics in inner city comprehensive schools serving diverse communities. National initiatives, teaching innovations and recent research findings are at the core of the training. We also aim to support students where appropriate with the development of essay and report writing, note taking, reading, group work and presentational skills
The course also includes a week in an alternative educational setting, such as a prison or hospital school. All students entering the course have the possibility of gaining up to 60 credits at Masters level, which can be used by students to count towards the award of full Masters level qualifications (such as the LSBU MA in Education) gained via further study after graduation.
