Course description
This course focuses on marketing tourism within the local, national and international environment. The course will equip those in marketing management posts within the tourism industry with the knowledge and understanding to be able to become practitioners within this field. It will enable you to apply theoretical frameworks and principles to the practical work environment in addition to providing practical evaluative and problem solving skills in order to be able to undertake senior management roles.
The taught components of the course will provide you with a variety of relevant and current thinking with regards to specific tourism and marketing concepts and how they can be integrated within the practical work environment. You will be asked to undertake a major piece of research to enable you to specialise in one particular aspect of Tourism Marketing.
The course will incorporate a residential study visit to Thailand undertaking collaborative research with post graduate students from Assumption University in Bangkok.
Full-time students enrolling in the U.K. can choose to study their first semester units at Assumption University in Bangkok.
Career opportunities
It is anticipated that successful graduates will assume positions in the marketing departments of a diverse range of private and public sector travel and tourism companies. This could include government and private tourism promotion boards, tour operators, transport networks, travel agents and hotel chains.
Typical background of applicant
Our typical student has come from a tourism or business studies or similar educational background and will have already demonstrated a proficiency at undergraduate level in marketing and/or tourism. Some of our students will have accredited prior knowledge in tourism through their past industrial experience and professional qualifications such as those from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
