LSBU is situated in the heart of London, offering our students unrivalled access to a city famed for its diversity and culture.
“LSBU is embedded in its South London community to an extent that other universities can only dream of.”
The Sunday Times University Guide 2008
A local campus
LSBU is local to some of the most recognised centres of culture and business in the world. Students at our main campus in Southwark study within walking distance of a wealth of galleries, museums, shops, bars and music venues. The campus is just a ten minute walk from the Southbank area, home to Royal Festival Hall, Hayward Gallery, Royal National Theatre, National Film Theatre and Tate Gallery of Modern Art.
Some of London’s famous theatres are also within walking distance – The Old Vic and The Globe, and just across the river are the bright lights of the West End. World-class arts and entertainment and riverside eating and drinking are right on our doorstep. The City and Canary Wharf are also only over the river, further cementing LSBU in the very heart of London.
LSBU has two additional campuses from which the Faculty of Health and Social Care run a number of programmes. LSBU at Havering is set in a leafy part of Essex within easy reach of Central London, whilst LSBU at Whipps Cross is based in East London.
The local community
At LSBU we consider ourselves an important part of the South London community. As an employer, learning partner and patron we contribute significantly to the local economy, bringing more than 25,000 people into the area. As a neighbour, regenerator and custodian, we have been playing an active role in the social development of the area since 1892.
Our links within the community cover a vast range of activities and partnerships, from local regeneration projects to student mentoring in schools and community groups.
