My life at LSBU

I have a degree in computer science from a university in Russia. However, as an assistant to the president of telecommunications company, I was not directly involved with projects. To improve my skills and develop my career, I decided I needed to go back to university and get a degree in one of the most innovative areas of the telecommunications industry, mobile telecom, in order progress my career.

Quality of teaching at LSBU is amazing. I was really inspired by the lessons of Paul Carden who was always giving us very challenging and interesting tasks and projects which required us to use our imagination and creativity. After graduation in 2008 I was offered a position as an IT project manager in the head office of a company in Vienna. This is exactly what I wanted and I can say that getting a degree in LSBU helped me to move forward on a career ladder.

Work/life/learning in London

I was studying two days a week and usually walked to the University because my flat was situated just minutes away from London Road building. After class I loved to go and have a walk on the Southbank and enjoy dinner at the restaurants there with my flatmates. Southbank has amazing views – Millennium Bridge, St. Paul’s Cathedral, House of Parliament, Westminster – all of these just in walking distance from the University.

LSBU is very well located in the central part of London, close to museums, bars and restaurants But the most important thing for me is that it’s just minutes walk to Southbank, my favourite place in London. After classes you can enjoy walking with friends on the bank of the river or eating in the restaurant watching people pacing around. I love the old books market, I could spend hours and love the atmosphere – very friendly and relaxing. I think London is a great place to live and study.

Graduating from a university in London means you have the advantage of getting into career ladder easily because most of country’s major employers in the worlds of finance, business, media and communications are on the doorstep.
