Course description
This is a top-up course for qualified accountants, which requires the completion of two taught units and a dissertation. It is offered on a full and part-time (one semester plus dissertation) basis.
The Accounting Theories, Issues and Skills unit focuses on reviewing current topics in accounting and finance, which will give you an overview of developingfields of research. In addition to broadening your knowledge, this unit should also help you to formulate yourown research proposal. In Research Methods and Methodologies, you will learn the techniques of research, how to develop a research proposal and how to review literature.
The dissertation stage gives you an opportunity to gain experience of conducting an extensive piece of research in an area of accounting or finance of particular interest to you.Through your reading, data collection, statistical analysis and writing up you will develop a detailed knowledge of your chosen topic.
You will acquire the knowledge and understanding required from the combination of lectures, tutor-led seminars and academic writing. You will also be encouraged throughout the course to undertake independent reading to supplement what is being taught and to broaden your individual knowledge and understanding of the subject.
Career opportunities
Graduates who possess a combination of an LSBU Masters degree and a professional accounting qualification are likely to be highly employable in senior positions in accounting and finance, not only in the UK but throughout the world.

For this course applicants must be professionally qualified accountants with a CCAB (UK) qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA). Part-time students would normally be expected to be/have experience of working in accounting or finance.
