Non-standard entry requirements

No formally stipulated academic qualifications are required. However, it is essential to be in current employment, preferably relevant employment in a personnel/human resource management function. In addition applicants need to be confident of having organisational support (in order to contribute in class and to undertake assignments and in particular to undertake the project which is work-based).

Course description

The Certificate in Personnel Practice is a Foundation level programme, at an equivalent level to NVQ/SVQ level three in personnel support. This course seeks to encourage and re-orientate people back into a learning and educational environment. The units covered on the course are designed to enable participants to develop and update a range of skills and knowledge required in the practice of personnel/ human resource management and to provide them with an understanding and appreciation of role and range of activities undertaken by personnel/ human resource management professionals.

The qualification allows you to progress in your chosen career and thereby is directly able to improve your employability for the future.

All those who successfully complete this course can progress their employment within personnel/human resource management and related disciplines and those who meet the entrance criteria are encouraged to progress onto the MScHR.

The qualification is intended for:

– Anyone working at the level of personnel assistant, personnel administrator or personnel officer, whose role is to provide support for key aspects of the personnel function

– Someone new to, or aspiring to, a career in the personnel function

– Line managers, supervisors or team leaders who wish to gain the same level of personnel skills as practitioners at this level

– The owners or managers of small businesses.

The Certificate in Personnel Practice is awarded by the CIPD. When you successfully complete the course you will become an Associate Member of the Institute.

It is a CIPD requirement that all those studying for the Certificate in Personnel Practice become members of the Institute. You will be responsible therefore for joining the CIPD and for paying all associated membership fees. The CIPD anticipates that membership will not just be taken out for the duration of the course but will be renewed year on year.
