My life at LSBU

When I’m on campus, I like to catch an early train to Elephant & Castle station, mere steps away from LSBU. Most of my formal teaching sessions and seminars are held in the Keyworth building which offers a breath-taking view of London with its tall glass walls. I normally catch up with my supervisor for an informal chat in her office or over a cup of coffee, to review the progress of my research and establish further tasks. If I have more time, I like to go to the library to update my research material with relevant books and journals, then meet with friends over the river in the West End at the end of the day.

Being very career-oriented, I was looking for a Masters course tailored to my needs in order to gain handson experience alongside necessary theoretical knowledge. LSBU enjoys a reputation as one of London’s finest universities in terms of course variety and content, teaching staff and facilities, and is a fantastic career platform for most students. This made me confident that by studying there I would be equipped the knowledge and support to pursue a career in media.

As the course is project-led, it was easy to fit my Masters studying requirements in with my part-time job, necessary to support myself at university. The quality of the teaching and the active support of my tutor, who encouraged and helped me reach my academic and professional goals.

After successfully completing the MA, it felt natural to deepen my understanding of the topic studied and to further my career with a PhD. I am currently employed as a Media Executive at MediaCom, Europe’s biggest media agency, where I plan and buy media campaigns for a diverse portfolio of clients. The academic qualification I achieved at LSBU enabled me to enter MediaCom as a graduate, and I am confident that my PhD research will aid my professional progression.

I have always wanted to study abroad, and London provides all the opportunities I need to pursue a successful academic and professional career – as well as representing the ideal background to a fun life with all the theatres, clubs and entertainment.
