Non-standard entry requirements

120 credits at Diploma level. If you do not already have a Diploma, you can still access the degree pathway by attending a bridging unit. This is called Evaluation for Level H (Level 3) Study which prepares you for study at degree level. There are no credits attached to this unit. At least 6 months relevant post registration experience.

You may take the units in any order except for the integrating study which must be the final unit of the BSc (Hons) Pathway.

Course description

This course has a practice focus and you will be required to attend Family Planning and Women’s Health Clinics to achieve the practice outcomes. These include assessing and meeting women’s contraceptive needs and performing cervical screening competently. You should be aware that some of these clinics are held in the evening and attendance is compulsory. Please note students must organise their own placements prior to commencing the course.

The Family Planning pathway includes two double units that are each of 30 credit value. Completing these units will qualify you to practice as a family planning nurse. Within the BSc (Hons) there are a total of four compulsory units which are both double units plus the research unit and the integrated study.

Career opportunities

Your employment prospects will be enhanced as family planning skills are in demand. Such skills are required for a variety of posts such as family planning nurse, nurse specialist, practice nurse or nurse practitioner.
