Course description

Mental health service delivery has been undergoing significant change in recent years which are impacting on how and where mental health professionals carry out their practice resulting new modes of working and pressure to ensure a skilled and capable workforce.

An important development within older peoples’ services is the increasing integration of health and social care at all levels. With such changes in mind, this programme is suitable for all mental health practitioners working in older peoples’ services, providing an opportunity for professional development. It will help promote the development of core skills and capabilities in mental health practice. As such it is a practice-based course which will help students apply new or enhanced skills and understanding to their particular practice areas, including both community and institutional settings.

The course is informed by the requirements and expectations of the
National Service Frameworks for Mental
Health and for Older People.

This programme contributes to the continuing professional development and expertise of mental health practitioners working in older peoples’ services. It should enable participants to enhance their performance in their current roles or as a basis for further career progression.
