International Students
English language provision
We offer free language classes throughout the academic year to help you improve your written and spoken English. The classes concentrate on English for academic purposes. If English is not your first language, you will need to have attained a certain level, usually through a recognised English language qualification. The minimum requirement for most LSBU postgraduate courses is IELTS – 6.5, TOEFL – 580, IBTOEFL 90, Cambridge Proficiency or Advanced Grade C or above. A small number of postgraduate programmes have a minimum IELTS requirement of 7.0 so please check the individual course entry criteria for further clarification. If you have reached the minimum requirement, but feel you need further practice, we offer free support classes to help you with study skills, grammar, business English and English for academic purposes. Working in the UK
In the UK most international students are entitled to work for up to 20 hours a week whilst studying. Our Careers Centre’s JobShop will offer you assistance in finding part-time jobs.

Scholarships
From 2009 LSBU will be offering over £300,000 in scholarships per year to support well-qualified non-EU students. There will be a wide range of scholarships for International students, allocated to specific courses or aimed at students from particular countries and regions. In addition we will be offering one full scholarship plus living expenses for one year under the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship scheme. For more information please check www.lsbu.ac.uk/international The University is also part of the Chevening Scholarship programme and we currently have scholars studying on postgraduate courses. Check with your British Council office for details of application procedures.
US Federal and private loans
LSBU is eligible to participate in the US Federal Family Education Loans Programme. Students from the US may be able to access Federal Stafford loans and Parent PLUS loans, or a number of private loans, to support themselves through their studies. Please contact the International Office for more information.
