campus MA TESOL programme, and mirrors it closely in terms of structure, content and methods of study, incorporating a new assessed research methods module which acts as link between the taught modules and the dissertation phase. The difference is that you do not have to leave your workplace to pursue your studies in Lancaster. The programme offers the opportunity for part-time distance learning and for basing the coursework and dissertation on issues and problems in your own educational context.


MA in TESOL (Hong Kong)

This programme is designed specifically for English language professionals resident in Hong Kong. The MA is a collaborative venture between Lancaster and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Lancaster staff teach in short intensive blocks, and the teaching takes place in the School of Continuing Studies in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, which also provides administrative and learning support (e.g. library access). The aim of the MA is to provide professionally relevant and practically oriented training that is tailored to the needs of local English teachers.


MA in Language Studies

The MA in Language Studies is designed for people with a special interest in language and linguistics. It is a very flexible scheme and designed to respond to a variety of needs and interests. You are invited to develop your own programme of study, choosing from a large selection of modules in a variety of areas, including literacy studies, sociolinguistics, discourse studies and stylistics. All students follow one core module - Research Issues in Applied Linguistics - which offers an overview of how to go about studying and researching language. You are then free to choose any five of the other modules required and write your dissertation in any area.
