Didier Soopramanien Management Science
Didier Soopramanien is a lecturer in Management Science who joined the Department in 2002 after completing a PhD in Economics at Lancaster University. His research and teaching interests are in the area of applied marketing analysis and modelling. His research has appeared in peer reviewed journals such as Applied Economics, Telecommunications Policy and International Journal of Retail and Distribution Management. When he is not working hard, he can either be found on the football pitch or doing outdoors circuits training very early in the morning.
“Organisations are increasingly in need of skilled analysts to analyse data and provide them with strategic competitive knowledge on their consumers and competitors. The Internet has and will continue to change the marketing landscape and there is now increasing evidence that competitive advantage can be gained by intelligently using data to better understand the market and the manner in which it is going to evolve. My research is currently looking into modelling the nature of this interesting change in the retailing environment mainly from a consumer behaviour perspective.”
Our taught programmes in Management Science are ideal for you if you wish to work in decision support, business analytics, project management, marketing analysis, logistics, supply chain, industrial engineering, operational research and management science. The employment record of our graduates is excellent and they are in demand from business and the public sector for their analytical skills. There is an active international alumni network based on our 40 years experience.
Our approach Our taught Masters programmes emphasise four themes:
• Quantitative modelling: building and using mathematical and statistical models to help people plan and make better decisions
• Systems thinking: seeing the whole picture, not just part of the problem
• Consulting skills: how to work with people and to make an impact
• Real-world focus: putting theory into practice through a 4-month project
Project-based learning The MSc projects are an essential part of the learning on each of the Masters programmes and give you a chance to use the analytical methods and professional skills developed on the taught modules. Completion of a project will be an asset on your CV and students sometimes go on to work for the organisation that sponsors their project.
