Research in the field of Gender and Women’s Studies is organised at Lancaster through the Centre for Gender and Women’s Studies within the Department of Sociology. This cross-disciplinary forum provides a focus for more than 40 staff and postgraduate students from 19 departments in the Arts and Social Sciences.
In the 2008 RAE, the Department of Sociology and the Centre for Gender and Women’s Studies were ranked in the top 5 units in the UK.
We run a series of seminars to which external speakers are invited; co-ordinate a listing of seminars on gender relations in departments across the University, and run specialist reading groups in addition to co-ordinating Gender and Women’s Studies teaching.
There are day schools and conferences in Gender and Women’s Studies in which postgraduate students are encouraged to participate. An interdisciplinary book series is based in the Centre to publish research by leading and new scholars in the field.
Some members of our core staff are also members of other research centres including the Centre for Science Studies and Cesagen (ERSC Centre for the Economic and Social Aspects of Genomics) at Lancaster.
