The Postgraduate Statistics Centre

Statistical modelling and rainfall

We run two internal seminar series, one in which research students can present their work to an audience of their fellow students only, the other is attended by both staff and students. By presenting at either or both of these seminar series, students gain valuable experience of communicating their ideas to a general statistical audience, whilst also receiving feedback from the audience which can help set future research directions.

All PhD students have their own departmental laptop, and are generously supported to attend and present work at national and international conferences.

Further Information: www.stor-i.lancs.ac.uk/

The STOR-i Doctoral Training Centre offers a unique four- year doctoral training programme with a ground-breaking approach to Statistics and Operational Research (STOR) developed and delivered with leading industrial partners.

The first year Masters of Research (MRes) comprises taught courses, projects and group activities to give you a robust grounding in STOR and to develop key research skills. A substantial component of the MRes will also be dedicated to identifying your research topic and planning your research. On successful completion of the MRes you will progress to a PhD in years 2-4. This is when you’ll encounter real-life commercial challenges, develop leading- edge STOR research and make a real impact on major industrial and scientific applications.

Continual collaboration and networking with our wide range of industrial partners ensures that this programme will produce a new generation of highly employable researchers equipped with the skills required for effective careers in academia or industry. Some of the UK’s leading companies committed to providing this support include Shell, Unilever, BT, the Met Office, Garrad Hassan, Ministry of Justice, Food Standards Agency, National Nuclear Laboratory, Northwest Regional Development Agency, QinetiQ and The Smith Institute.
