120 The Management School

Lancaster University Management School’s research mission is ‘to produce research outputs that are world class and have high impact’. This long-term commitment to research of the highest quality has encouraged a distinctive and deeply embedded research culture within LUMS. High quality international faculty have been attracted to Lancaster. We publish in leading peer-reviewed journals, play major roles in developing new interdisciplinary research agendas across the academic community, engage with employers across all sectors, and influence national and international policy.

Not surprisingly, Lancaster University Management School has achieved a 20-year reputation for research of exceptional quality and international standing. 75% of Lancaster University Management School’s research activity was assessed in 2008 as world leading or internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour, and virtually all its research (95%) is at least of international standing.

Lancaster is in the top-four university business schools on most measures of research quality.

Other measures of our reputation include the School’s accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), EQUIS, the European Foundation for Management Development and the Association of MBAs (for our MBA programmes and our MSc in Management). The prestigious recognition means LUMS becomes one of a small group of business schools to hold triple accreditation which signifies high educational quality, internationalisation and a high level of co-operation with the business community; AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business representing the highest standard of achievement for business schools, worldwide; AMBA, the UK Association of MBA’s recognition of our full-time and part-time Executive MBA and the MSc in Management. The recognition of our full-time MBA programme by its continued rise in the Financial Times Top 100 global MBA programmes (27th

in the world);

the recognition of the School’s PhD and MRes programmes for studentship funding by the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC); the MSc Programmes in Accounting and Finance award of ‘Program Partner Status’ by the CFA Institute (the global organisation that awards the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst qualification).

The School has been very successful in generating research and project income including grants from the ESRC, EPSRC, British Academy, EU, Leverhulme Trust, DfES, DERA, NHS, Operational Research Society, Nuffield Foundation and a wide range of commercial and industrial sponsors.
