SUCCESS FOR LATEST PROCIDIS SERIES
Sustainable Development series Once Upon a Time ... Planet Earth, the seventh in the Once Upon a Time line that was
launched at MIPTV this April, is set to become yet another massive commercial success for Albert Barillé’s Procidis.
Sales of the series, which will be available for broadcast at the beginning of 2009, have already been secured in over 20
major territories including France, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic,
Israel and throughout Scandinavia. New York based distributor, DLT has
also secured sales rights for North America and the series will also enjoy
worldwide coverage via Al Jazeera’s Kids Channel.
The ancilliary rights deals also impressive with sales secured in some 35
territories. Publishing house De Agostini, has again acquired European book
and DVD rights for a number of countries which include the traditional
territories such as Italy, Spain, Portugal and newer ones such as Russia,
Bulgaria and Slovakia. This deal will increase considerably the 200 million
book sales figures that the Once Upon a Time series have reached to date.
DVD sales have also been brisk for Procidis who have renegotiated their long
standing deal with Children’s Publishing in Scandinavia. Sony BMG have also
secured the latest series for France where the previous Once Upon a Time series were the publishers most successful
DVD title, selling over 1.5 million copies in France alone. Altaya have secured both the Book and DVD rights for the
UK and France.
In addition to the book and DVD range is a board game, designed for the 6-year old and upwards demographic, and a
deal has already been concluded with Atomic Mix. This game follows in the footsteps of the “Once Upon a Time ...Life”
and “Once Upon a Time...Man” properties which have enjoyed exceptional successes since their launch in 2007.
Other properties available for “Planet Earth” include interactive game formats for mobile phones, internet games and
CDs. Filmed in HD and combining 3D, animation and real images, Once upon a Time ... Planet Earth will enlighten young
viewers to the problems of today including global warming, pollution, energy exhaustion and solutions - space, health,
fair trade, forests, child labour, hunger, poverty, fishing excesses.
Each of the 26 episodes will edutain family viewers through the adventures of the series’ heroes who are outraged by
the events that are mentioned on the television one day and forgotten the next. Together, with their friend Maestro,
they decide to create a newspaper that will report on all the abuses and injustices they discover through their travels
to the Great North and the Amazon Rainforest to name but two.
