TOTAL LICENSING
ROCKET LICENSE HBO IN THE UK
Rocket Licensing has signed a UK and Republic of Ireland representation
deal with programming network HBO (Home Box Office, Inc.) covering
both classic (excluding Sex and the City) and new television series.
One of HBO’s newest television shows in the UK is Flight of the Con-
chords. Originally a six-part BBC Radio 2 comedy series, Flight of the
Conchords became an instant success when it moved to HBO in the
summer of 2007 and debuted on BBC Four last Autumn. The show follows
the adventures of two transplanted New Zealanders, Bret and Jemaine,
who have moved to New York where they split their time between seek-
ing venues where they can perform and awkwardly courting women they
meet.
As part of Rocket’s HBO representation for Flight of the Conchords, the
company has initially signed key deals with Bravado International Ltd for
t-shirts, GB Eye for posters and badges, and Danilo for calendars.
Included in the licens-
ing deal is the multi-
ple award-winning
drama The Sopranos.
The series revolves
around mobster Tony
Soprano and the dif-
ficulties he faces as
he tries to balance his home life and the demands of the criminal organi-
zation he heads. Spanning six seasons, The Sopranos has been called “the
greatest work of American pop culture of the past quarter century” by
The New York Times.
Another popular show that Rocket will be representing is the award-
winning comedy series Entourage. The show follows the day-to-day life
of Vince Chase, a young actor experiencing life in the fast lane in Hol-
lywood.
Commenting on the signing, Rob Wijeratna, Joint MD of Rocket, said,:
“HBO has a fantastic range of innovative, high quality and compelling prop-
erties that always set new benchmarks for the very best television. We are
delighted to be working with them and are looking to license an exciting
range of products that reflect the brand values of these amazing proper-
ties. We have already made a great start signing up key deals for Flight of
the Conchords.”
NEW DEALS FOR SANCTIFY BRAND
360ep have recently announced that, in addition to signing BioWorld
Merchandising for all apparel related accessory items, it has completed
three new licensing deals for the Sanctify brand on behalf of its cli-
ent American Classics Inc. Exquisite Apparel will be introducing men’s
boxers, loungewear and sleepwear, Trends International has signed on
for posters, 2010 calendars, journals and bookmarks, and Etchstar has
joined for engraved personal electronics. Since launching at Magic in
2007, the Sanctify line of t-shirts has seen great sell through at retail-
ers such as Kitson, Macy’s, Journeys, Against All Odds, Bon Ton, C-28
and Buckle. The line is now expanding into additional retail stores, and
the sub-brand, Exalted, will be coming to stores such as Burlington and
Mervyns in the near future. The popularity of Sanctify is due in part
to American Classics’ reputation as a dependable and quality manu-
facturer, but it is the positive messages and trendy religious imagery
that has solidified Sanctify’s place in today’s pop culture apparel world.
Products from Etchstar launched in August. Trends will roll out prod-
ucts starting in November and Exquisite will began offering product
for Spring 09.
