TOTAL LICENSING
SECOND ITALIAN LICENSING FORUM
Following the success of the French Kazachok Forum, with 500 participants
a year, the First Italian Edition of Licensing Forum Kazachok held in Milan last
year, attracted 170 professionals and Kazachok are looking to increase this
when the second Italian Licensing Forum takes place in Milan on November 13
this year. The Italian licensing business has reached a degree of maturity with li-
censees who are more aware than in the past and who need more information.
“We realized that consumers are buying into the quality of the product and
the consistency of the property. That’s why we are keener today to choose the
right property rather than blindly follow the mainstream”, explained a licensee
attending the 2007 Italian Forum.
This is probably a point of view shared by the majority of the licensees who
attended last year’s Forum, and explains the high response to the satisfaction-
check questionnaires distributed during the event.
However the 2007 Licensing Forum was not just of benefit to licensees. Licen-
sor exhibitors were positive that the number of enquiries they had had in a sin-
gle day were more than enough to justify re-booking for 2008. “Compared with
other fairs where you have to commit to 4/5 days, often away from home in
order to contact single categories of licensees, the Kazachok Licensing Forum
is much more efficient as a one-stop shop,” explained an exhibiting Licensor.
This year’s forum will keep the same format that has made the French Forum
such a success: a combination of exhibition stands and content-driven confer-
ences. New additions to this year’s event include a Brand corner, designed for
those promoting brands and other non-entertainment properties.
The conference program will also include leading brand and fashion licens-
ing speakers. Property Pitches will also be available for licensor partners to
present their licensing programs.

CHARACTER WORLD OPENS IN CHINA
Character World has expanded its worldwide operations by opening two
offices in China.
The company decided on the key areas of Guangzhou and Hangzhou in Chi-
na to open the international offices, which employ 16 local people in total.
The role of the offices is to ensure quality control, track orders and source
products. The move builds on the two outlets Character World bought in
Pakistan in 2006, which now employ 10 people.
Danny Schweiger, director at Character World said, “Our offices make use
of the latest technology and a wealth of local knowledge. The move demon-
strates Character World’s strong position in the licensing sector. All four of
the international offices ensure our factories meet the strict standards that
customers and licensors expect.”
