The Department of Politics and International Relations has a large
and thriving postgraduate programme. The student body is
particularly cosmopolitan, with at least half coming from outside
the UK. We offer a range of Masters programmes in aspects of
international relations, security studies and peace and conflict
studies, public administration, international law and international
relations, and politics with pathways. The PhD programme allows
candidates to pursue research degrees in a broad array of specialist
areas reflecting the research interests of members of the
Department.
The Department hosts the internationally reputed Richardson
Institute for Peace Studies. The international journals British
Elections and Parties Review and Cultural Values are edited in the
Department, and members of staff are on the boards of a series of
Professor Christopher May other international journals in the field.

The Department offers ten taught Masters programmes, one of
which, the MA in Politics, itself has seven different pathways. In all
