Engineering
The Engineering Department specialises in multi-disciplinary
research, particularly in the areas of energy, nuclear engineering
and micro-systems. It has close links with many industries.
The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise evaluated 95% of research
in the Department being at internationally recognised levels. In
particular, 100% of the research outputs from Engineering have
been judged to be internationally recognised, of which over one-
sixth are 4*, world leading. The Department has expanded
substantially since 2001 with subsequent research valued in excess
of £6.5M. Support of students and research is obtained from
EPSRC, EU, DTI, Charitable Foundations, Knowledge Transfer
Partnerships (KTP) and industry. The Department is one of the top
