The study of culture at Lancaster covers a large and diverse range of
work in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Management. The
Department provides a home for the interdisciplinary study of
culture at Lancaster University. This collaborative ethos is widely
admired outside Lancaster where it is recognised as one of the
factors which contributes to Lancaster’s overall strengths in teaching
and research.
Cultural research at Lancaster is distinguished by the extension of
established theories into new domains of inquiry. It is concerned
with contemporary culture and cultural history from the standpoint
of cultural theory. It attends to the changing nature of
contemporary life, to contemporary culture’s representation of itself,
