Performing Arts Learning and Teaching
Innovation Network (PALATINE)
PALATINE, the national subject centre for the performing arts
with the Higher Education Academy, is based at LICA. PALATINE
is a major resource for all UK universities and conservatoires, and
provides advice, support and practical help for HE teachers and
researchers of dance, drama, music and theatre studies, and
other related areas.
Practice and Theory: Research in Composition
(PATRIC)
PATRIC is a research centre that fosters the innovative study of
the composition of music and other art forms (contemporary
and historical) and of the relationships between creativity and its
theoretical and cultural contexts.
Visual Intelligences
Visual Intelligences explores modes of intention and critical
judgement within different approaches to practice in the visual
arts. It is particularly concerned with the effective performance
and aesthetic properties of the artefacts of visual culture.
RESEARCH AREAS
Staff research in LICA is organised into four research areas:
Languages of Form: The ways in which materials, techniques
and technologies can be tested, manipulated and applied,
especially through choreography, fine art, intermedia installations
and digital art, music computation and composition, and
performance composition.
Languages of Process and Creative Intelligence: The
relationship between thinking and making in specific creative
practices, the cultural values that shape that relationship, and
