At biz-mag we believe that change is already afoot and in the future we will see print and
digital working in unison. For many expensive glossy magazines we also predict a shift in type
of readership, which will ultimately mean more readers. This is because digital subscribers will
not want to pay the same price as the print version and that means that those that could not
afford the print version can now enjoy the digital version at half the cost or even less. Is it time
for publishers to consider two tier subscription rates? Should they offer costs benefits to those
that use an online version, as the utility companies do?

Whichever side of the fence you sit on, digital publications
like biz-mag are here to stay, although they may take on
different forms in the future. Meanwhile, publications such
as your own in-house magazine are going to have a
positive impact on your business.

Digital magazines typically offer around 40% more
acceptable advertising space compared to web sites,
due to linear browsing, much the same as with the
printed magazine. They can include video, audio,
flash and live web links for increased reader
experience and impact. A good digital magazine
can also increase your ad revenue - video ads
are 2.6 times more effective than static / print
ads and flash ads 1.6 times more effective.
They allow you to reduce your print, postage
& distribution costs.

The top four reasons that digital

subscribers cite for reading digital

editions remain unchanged from last

year and are, in order, the ability to

search issues, ease of saving,

environmental friendliness, and

more convenient than print.

Texterity, Inc, an American provider of digital
magazine solutions, recently conducted its second
annual BPA Worldwide-certified digital magazine
reader survey. Results show that digital magazine
readers are highly engaged with the digital edition:
89% read it in the week of publication and 42% read
it immediately or on the same day. Digital magazine
readers are also reducing their use of print - over
44% of respondents over the last twelve months.
This is an 11% rise from the 2006 survey in which
33% of respondents had decreased their use of print.
