Learning the grants and funding landscape is essential CPD

Final Tips
Now that you have the resources to find grants and funding and know what to look out for,
just remember the following tips and you could be on the path to better cash-flow and further
business development.
Contact the funding agent or grant officer in charge of your chosen scheme as they will
know details that may not be published. In some cases they may even relax rules or
adjust criteria if the scheme is not reaching its targets. A cordial relationship also gives
you the opportunity to build a rapport with them and find out whether your project is
worth applying for funding or not.
Plan in advance and accept that funding takes time:
some schemes are annual and others make
decisions through committees that may not meet
that often.
It’s not just about the ‘free’
money: even if you don’t win a
grant you may find other
resources such as loan
schemes, free consultancy, tax
relief and much, more.
Researching and
learning about the
grant and funding
landscape is one
‘continued professional
development’ (CPD) that never
goes to waste and will be useful
throughout your business career. It’s
the kind of unrecognised qualification
we should all have as business
owners and entrepreneurs, and
utilised properly can lead to
continued success. Good luck!
