RDPE is a seven-year programme (2007-2013), which is
worth £3.9 billion and is jointly funded by the EU and
into this funding
national Government. It is part of the Common Agricultural
programme.
Policy. It aims to support and promote sustainable farming,
forestry and food sectors, and also to bring wider benefits
for the economy, the environment and rural communities.
The delivery or spending of this money depends on the region, but most is provided by means of
support, grants, training, development, management and advice. Most regions have their own
RDPE websites or your local RDA or Business Link will have information. The quickest way to find
this is to search on Google. Just search for RDPE North East or RDPE South West etc and you
should find the correct links to the programme in your area.
One of the outstanding aspects of the RDPE programme is that it’s open to almost any ideas that
can help the rural economy. biz-mag’s favourite and recommended resource is the RDPE Network.
By joining this network you are able to benefit from sharing ideas, knowledge, experience and
practice with others. And don’t forget to check out the project search to see how some of the
money is being spent.
As an entrepreneur or proactive business you
should look seriously at working more closely with
your rural business partners, colleagues and
friends, and you too could plug into this excellent
rural programme for England.
