Add-on Ordinary and add-on Honours Degrees
The Department of Life and Physical Sciences also offers a direct application process to enter our courses at years 2, 3 or 4. Applicant are normally
students currently in third level education. NOTE: In all cases, we also encourage applications from people who may not have achieved the application
criteria detailed below, but who have extensive relevant work experience.
COURSE YEAR APPLICATION CRITERIA
✤Physics and Instrumentation 2 Applicants should normally have passed year 1 science in
✤Chemical and Pharmaceutical Science an Institute of Technology or University.
✤Applied Freshwater and Marine Biology
✤Applied Biology and Biopharmaceutical Science
B.Sc. Ordinary 3 Applicants should normally hold a Higher Certificate in Physics or Electronics, or have
Physics and Instrumentation successfully completed two years of study at third level in the areas of Physics or
Electronics
B.Sc. Ordinary 3 Applicants should normally hold a Higher Certificate in Science with a strong
Chemical and Pharmaceutical emphasis on Chemistry, or have completed two years of study at third level in a
Science discipline focussing on Chemistry
B.Sc. Ordinary Applicants should normally hold a Higher Certificate in Science focussing on the
Applied Biology and Biopharmaceutical Science 3 Biological Sciences, or have completed two years of study at third level in a Science
discipline focussing on Biology
B.Sc. Ordinary 3 Applicants should normally hold a Higher Certificate in Science focussing on the
Applied Freshwater and Marine Biology Biological Sciences, or have completed two years of study at third level in a Science
discipline focussing on Biology
B.Sc. (honours) in Physics and Instrumentation 4 Applicants should normally hold a B.Sc. Ordinary / General or a Diploma in Physics
or Electronics, or have successfully completed three years of study at third level in the
areas of Physics or Electronics
B.Sc. (honours) in 4 Applicants should normally hold a B.Sc. Ordinary / General or a Diploma in Science
Chemical and Pharmaceutical Science with a strong emphasis on Chemistry, or have completed three years of study at

Fine Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals
B.Sc. (honours) in 4 Applicants should normally hold a B.Sc. Ordinary / General or a Diploma in Science
Applied Biology and Biopharmaceutical Science focussing on the Biological Sciences, or have completed three years of study at
Old course add-on: B.Sc. (honours) in third level in a Science discipline focussing on Biology
Biopharmaceutical and Healthcare Sciences
B.Sc. (honours) in 4 Applicants should normally hold a B.Sc. Ordinary / General or a Diploma in Science
Applied Freshwater and Marine Biology focussing on the Biological Sciences, or have completed three years of study at
Old course add-on: B.Sc. (honours) in third level in a Science Applied Aquatic Ecology discipline focussing on Biology
