Why study Agriculture and Environmental Management? Other Essential Information
This course provides you with a range of specialized skills ideal for emplyment in Year 1 of the course is common with the BBS in Rural Enterprise and Agribusiness
the agriculture and environmental sectors. course (GA 172). Year 1 of the course is based at Mountbellew on four days per
week and one day per week in GMIT. Year 2 of the course is based at

Year 1: Production Agriculture, Environmental Science, Economics, Accountancy, Students reside at Mountbellew for the first two years.
Communications, Computing and Information Systems and Business Year 3 is spent at the GMIT Galway campus.
Statistics. There is a three month work placement period in year 2 on a farm, environmental

Analytical Science and electives such as Business Law, Sales and Selling, Graduates satisfy the training requirements for farming and farm grants.
Agricultural Economics, Farm Mechanisation, Advanced Dairy Production
or Business Information Systems. Follow-on Studies
Year 3: Environmental Management, Market Research, Enterprise Development, Graduates can transfer to Bachelor and Bachelor (honours) Degree courses at this
Sustainable Development, Sustainable Agriculture, Agri-marketing, an or other colleges and universities in Ireland and elsewhere. Such transfers are
Agri-enterprise project and a variety of electives such as Financial dependent on results and on comparability of courses. Linkages with EU colleges
Management and Taxation, the Irish Economy, Food Production and open up exciting possibilities for further study

Career Opportunities
This course is for people who intend to become part-time farmers, full-time
commercial farmers or for those who wish to use the specialised technical,
creative and conceptual skills and competencies to initiate and develop rural
enterprises, be employed as community rural development officers, as agricultural
officers with the department of agriculture, as field technicians or as sales
representatives with agri-service companies.
