Tom Wood of Foolproof talks to Nick James about maximising sales from your website
NJ: What advice do you have for a company that wants to use their website as a sales tool? TW: There are three things that you and your organisation need to do to maximise sales from your website: First of all get over yourself because, second, you need to learn to listen to your customers – start to find a way of listening to what they have to say to you. Thirdly, act upon what you hear. In fact that third point, is perhaps the hardest of all. Most advice that you can get out there from agencies or from consultants is hopelessly biased opinion because it will tend to come from a point of view about what you should be buying. So where do you go to get a good idea about what consumers want and need from your website? You need to engage a bit more about listening to and picking up from consumers – your real customers – about what it is they’re doing online on your site but also on other people’s sites and start using that as information that starts changing the way that you act.
