The Credit Suisse Jersey International Motoring Festival of Classic and Vintage Cars and Motorcycles

Friday to Sunday 3 to 5 June 2011

The 2011 Credit Suisse Jersey International Motoring Festival takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3, 4 and 5 June, and promises to be yet another motoring spectacle in the tradition of the Jersey International Road Races of the late 1940s and early 1950s.

As many as a hundred visiting veteran, vintage and classic cars and motorcycles with their owners and families from the United Kingdom and Europe and as far afield as New Zealand are expected to attend as well as local enthusiasts and the organisers – the Classic & Vintage Motor Racing Club of Jersey – have devised a series of events that promise spectators the thrills of motor sport as well as the opportunity to see some of the most exciting and magnificent (and most expensive) vehicles ever to run on two or four wheels in parades and demonstrations. The events are open to cars made before 1975 and motorcycles made before 1979.

As well as round-the-Island tours and static displays there will be at least two sporting events, which over the past decade have provided the high speed thrills of this festival. A further speed event is also in preparation

but, at the time of writing, has not yet been finalised.

On Saturday 4 June the touring cars will embark on an Island tour at 9.30 am and 45 minutes later the sporting cars and motorcycles will be competing in the traditional Westmount Hill Climb. With its twists, adverse cambers and hairpin bends this course poses real challenges and an exciting spectacle for spectators all along the route. The organisers are very grateful to the residents who live along the route for their forbearance and enthusiasm for this annual event taking place outside their front doors. Once again competitors will have at least four runs – two practice and two official – and will be competing for a range of class trophies. On the Sunday morning will be the second traditional hill climb around Mount Bingham starting from 9.30 am until 2.00 pm. A firm favourite with participants and spectators alike this hill climb once again features hairpin bends, adverse cambers and a spectacular hump

participants will return to take part in the display in the People’s Park.

Entry for spectators to all the events is free of charge.

The Classic and Vintage Motor Racing Club of Jersey is very grateful to all those in the Island without whose generous support, enthusiasm and understanding an event of this size – it is the largest motoring event in the Channel Islands – could not take place. “We are very grateful to Credit Suisse for continuing their sponsorship of the event which has enabled it to grow into an event which now features on national and even international calendars,” says organiser Steve Salmon, “That we are able to attract participants from Britain, Europe and even further afield is proof of that. We receive an amazing level of support and co- operation from everyone with whom we have functional contact, particularly the relevant parish authorities who allow us to close their roads, the States and Honorary Police, the Island’s motor clubs and, of course, the general public.”

In 2010 the Credit Suisse Jersey International Motoring Festival attracted some spectacular participants including a number of classic Formula One racing cars and Moto GP Suzuki racing

where the competitors sometimes actually take off as they cross from South Hill into Fort Regent Road. Each participant will have at least four runs. After competing, the

motorcycles and the organisers are hoping for similar crowd pleasers in 2011.
