THIS MONTH...
Ralph Dijk
Product manager, MAD
“I love it! Great stuff – also I think that it was
very clever to make it a limited edition.
“I like the black colour very much for
products like luggage, tents, and garments
– it’s much more fashionable and modern than
green. It has the advantage that people can
also better use or wear the products in black
in the time that they are not fi shing. Nevertheless, I don’t think that
black is the new green as green is considered being THE angling and
outdoor colour from a history point of view.
“Of course this is because green provides better camoufl age than
other colours, for catching more fi sh and, more importantly, other
anglers cannot see you sitting on the banks so easily. T_h e latter has a
great psychological part too.
“Finally, regulations also infl uence this. On many waters in France
you are not allowed to use other colours than the ones that blend in
with the surrounding area.”
Kevin Nash
Owner, Nash Tackle
“It’s funny you mention the black
Armo because since the T&G
Show I have voiced the opinion
to several retailers that say ‘I
remember the T&G Show for the
black Armo’.
“I looked around at the event
and noted how little development or innovation there
was. It seems to me that the tackle trade is stagnating,
possibly because of the recession - companies are pulling
back on investment in research and development. Do I
really believe that? Er, well frankly no.
“What I do believe is that, more or less, there are few
innovators in the trade; it is just copy, copy, copy.
“Why will I remember the show for the black Armo?
Well if the best the trade can come up with is a black
bivvy instead of green then the retailers should fear for
their futures!”
Mark Coulson
Editor of the UK’s leading carp magazine, Total Carp
“T_h e news that Trakker had made a limited-
edition, black bivvy was met with some
quizzical looks in the Total Carp offi ce. Like
most things that are a little ‘off the wall’,
however, you then take a few minutes to digest
what exactly has been done and, guess what,
we all soon came round to the idea.
“I’ll say this, while I don’t mind the whole camou thing, I don’t like
it on bivvies. I just don’t see the point. T_h ere’s only one colour for a
bivvy and that’s olive green. Or is it? I am actually starting to really
like this black one. It’s diff erent without being ostentatious; makes a
statement without being brash and, most of all, the limited run allows
the user to stand out from the crowd while still blending into the
background; at night at least.”
