SPORTS CENTRE OPENING
TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN’S new state-of-the-art Sports Centre was officially opened by the late Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, Séamus Brennan, on 7 April 2008. The €30M building houses a 25-metre, six-lane swimming pool, a climbing wall, two sports halls as well as other top-class indoor sports facilities. The Centre was made possible by a very substantial donation from Atlantic Philanthropies, in addition to significant support from Trinity’s own students through an annual student levy.

Terry McAuley Celebrates 40 years of Trinity sport
THE DINING Hall was the setting on 18 April 2008 for a tribute dinner to celebrate over 40 years involvement by Terence (Terry) McAuley M.A. (1971), Director of Sport, with Dublin University Association Football Club. Among those present were host David (Dave) McCarthy B.B.S., A.C.A. (1982), President of Dublin University AFC, Trevor West B.A., Ph.D., F.T.C.D. (1960), Chairman of DUCAC, David Blood, President of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) and John Delaney, the FAI’s CEO. President David Blood paid tribute to the long and distinguished service Terry has given to soccer in Trinity as a player, coach and manager while also acknowledging the tremendous work he continues to do as President of the Irish Universities Football Union and as a member of several FAI key committees. Terry responded in his own inimitable style, thanking all for making it such a memorable evening, recounting many stories of games past and adding how privileged he has been working with so many wonderful people.
TRIBUTE TO THE LONG AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TERRY HAS GIVEN TO SOCCER IN TRINITY
SPORTS HALL OF FAME
THE SPORTS HALL of Fame, inaugurated in 2006, was awarded to the Men’s and Ladies Hockey Clubs at a Commons reception in Trinity during February 2008.
“I was lucky enough to have played for the men’s team of 1985/86 chosen to be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame,” said Neale Webb B.A. (1966). “The special nature of the occasion was that so many people with similar interests and a love for the place and the game could get together. The Dining Hall was an excellent venue conveying a sense of gravitas and the past.”

“The Ladies Hockey team of 1974/75 gathered from all over Ireland, UK and France, together for the first time since 1975 and the bittersweet memory of reaching the Leinster Cup Final and losing! This dinner provided the impetus for the reunion and the presentation of the Sports Hall of Fame award to the team,” said Heather Norris B.A (1976).
