VICTORIA

Kieran (Ciaran) Horgan B.B.S., M.A. (1983)

The branch has been undergoing a period of consolidation this year, commencing with an exercise of circularising all alumni in Victoria based on records held at Trinity. The exercise proved successful, with a very encouraging response rate and a substantially enlarged email contact database. Communication has been successfully established with both the New South Wales and Queensland Trinity Alumni.

April featured a Cocktail Party at the home of Kieran (Ciaran) Horgan B.B.S., M.A. (1983) and Jackie Horgan, with new and old alumni mixing in the course of a convivial evening. In the intervening months, alumni were provided with opportunities to network with both The Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce and the Australian Ireland Fund established by Pro-Chancellor Sir Anthony O Reilly LL.D. (h.c.) (1978).

The Annual Dinner was held on Friday June 27 at University House in Melbourne University.

LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK

Judith Boreland B.A. (2001)

A small graduate community has sprung up on the North shore of Long Island, New York, about one hour's drive from Manhattan. The first step was made when Una O'Neill B.A.I. (1992) moved to Long Island in 2002 to work. Shortly after this move, a colleague of Una’s husband – Ross Gillanders B.A. (1998) – arrived. A snowball effect followed: a class mate of the new arrival, John Connolly B.A. (1998), was next in line followed by his partner (now wife) Judith Boreland B.A. (2001), bringing the group to four. If there are any other graduates in the Long Island area, particularly in Suffolk County, we would love to hear from them.

NEW YORK

Naomi McMahon B.B.S. (2005)

The New York Alumni Committee celebrated this year’s Trinity Ball in the dazzling surroundings of the New York Academy of Sciences at 7 World Trade Centre on May 10 2008.

Over 100 Irish professionals, Trinity graduates and friends put on their glad rags and polished their dancing shoes for an evening of socializing, exquisite food and show-stopping entertainment.

Distinguished guests included Pulitzer-prize winning author Frank McCourt, Jane Ohlmeyer Ph.D., M.A. (j.o.) (1991), and members of Trinity Foundation including Mary Apied, President of Trinity Foundation, and John Dillon, the new Alumni Director, as well other friends of the alumni. Guests enjoyed exclusive performances from Jason Bernard and Patrick Mangan, the leading tap dancer and fiddle player respectively from Riverdance, fresh from their North American show.

In August, fellow graduates and friends were invited to the first summer soirée, while the annual Pan-Alumni Christmas drinks at Glucksman Ireland House will be taking place in December. More details will be available on the Ball website, www.trinityballny.com. The new Trinity College Dublin NYC alumni social networking group is also available on Linked In at www.linkedin.com/e/gis/79780/4692745ED28E.
