Therapiesthat can

help fertility - available in St. Helier

Alongside a high-powered career or thriving business, most people expect at some point to have a family. However, many professionals find it doesn’t come as easily as they expect. The reason could be stress. Obvious signs of stress can be physical and behavioural changes i.e. back, neck, shoulder tension, inability to concentrate, general irritability, lethargy and disturbed sleep, we generally feel depleted and out of balance. There can sometimes be an unseen consequence of stress – that of lowered fertility.

It is not a surprise that one of the health issues we see frequently at the Neroli clinic (and which is becoming increasingly common) is fertility problems for both men and women. According to the British Fertility Society it is estimated that “at least a quarter of couples experience a period of infertility in their reproductive lives lasting over a year.” It becomes a long-term problem for one in six couples.

Clients and patients say the Neroli Clinic is a ‘holistic haven’ in the heart of St. Helier where we offer various complementary therapies

that aim to help patients relieve tension, understand emotional and physical blocks and eventually unlock their fertility. We work alongside traditional doctors and fertility consultants to provide an integrated approach to health and wellbeing.

As health practitioners (Jane Fullerton, a physiotherapist using cranio-sacral techniques and reflexology, and Polly Ashton, an acupuncturist), we both work within the field of reproductive healthcare and have a combined experience of over 30 years. We work closely with couples to optimize conditions for a healthy pregnancy.

By taking an in-depth medical history to pinpoint reproductive health needs, treatments are individually tailored to suit each patient. The focus of our work at the Neroli Clinic aims to manage stress and hormonal imbalance which are both thought to be frequent contributors to fertility problems and which disrupt many different normal functions within the body that in turn play a part in our potential not only to conceive,

but to support a healthy pregnancy.

Preparing for a baby is one of the most important times in any couple’s life. It is a time when optimum health is essential. Ideally couples should adopt a four-month pre-conceptual health plan. This is approximately the time it takes for both the egg to mature and the sperm to develop, and they need to enjoy this period of good health in order to maximize chances of natural conception and of having a healthy baby. Recent research shows conclusively that if both partners follow a healthy lifestyle- eat nutritiously, take regular exercise and find time to relax , they can significantly improve their chances of having a baby. It has also been commonly accepted that adult diseases such as heart disease, breast cancer, diabetes and obesity have been linked to poor lifestyle habits or inherited directly from genes. However, recent research from Southampton University suggests that we may develop vulnerabilities to these diseases simply by how we are nourished in the womb. We aim to
