On this evening, Lambda Archives of San Diego will be honoring
the following 12 heroes who have broadened avenues of equality in
the LGBT community. Several other contributors to the Archives will
be given tribute as well. Lambda Archives will also announce its new
Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of San Diego’s Nicole Murray
Ramirez. The annual Lifetime Achievement Award goes to an individual
who has made an important contribution to LGBT equality, nationally or
internationally, as well as in San Diego.
Among the honorees are Superior Court Judge Ted Weathers, first
openly gay Superior Court Justice appointed by the governor; Steve
Padilla, first Latino and gay man to be elected mayor of a major city in
the San Diego area; Ben F. Dillingham III, the first openly gay man to
serve as chief of staff to a mayor of San Diego; State Senator Chris Kehoe,
the first open member from the LGBT community elected to San Diego
City Council; Mattheus Stephens, Esq., one of the county’s best orators
and fighters for LGBT equality; Robert Lynn, Esq., a founder and the first
president of the San Diego Democratic Club; Teresa Oyos, a Latino femi-
