Wedding party
There’s nothing like a good wedding, as Claire Dodd discovered on a fam trip to South
Africa organised by Travel 2, South African Tourism and South African Airways
Fam trip report
A
s we watched the bride arrive at
her wedding rehearsal, it was
difficult to concentrate with five
children in white crash helmets
running between the bridesmaids.
It was one of the strangest experiences of
my life and one I felt partially responsible
for – one of those helmets was mine.
I was in KwaZulu-Natal province, which
roughly translates as the Zulu kingdom,
on a Travel 2 fam trip.
Our cultural quad bike journey, led by
one of the locals, had taken us through the
Zulu villages of Nkundusi, a rural area close
to the town of Hluhluwe.
First we rode down tracks that cut through
miles of flat parched scrubland, marked only
by the odd jeep or rusty tractor.
Q&A
Sharon Marsh
Travel Counsellors, Brighton
Do you sell a lot of South Africa?
I have done lately, especially earlier in the year over
Christmas and Easter.
What clients usually go for it?
Mainly families but I’ve also booked honeymoons there.
The country’s reputation is getting better.
What kind of packages do they go for?
Mainly Cape Town and the Garden Route.
How much Travel 2 do you sell?
I have one client who has spent in excess of £80,000
with Travel 2 this year. They are a good supplier all
round. Both their service and their products are great.
What did you learn at the Travel 2 conference?
There are so many fabulous reserve lodges here. We
met a lot of owner-managers at the conference
and you could see how passionate they were
about their own properties.
Will the conference help you sell
South Africa?
Definitely. It’s about having that
first-hand knowledge. When you are
passionate about it, it just rubs
off on to the client.
