Contributing Editors
Expert sailors and professional captains from throughout the Caribbean basin have
contributed their vast local knowledge to Reed’s Pilot section this year. Chief among
those were:
HErB McCOrMiCk
A career marine journalist, Reed’s Editor Herb McCormick is the former editor of Cruising
World magazine and for three years served as the sailing correspondent for The New York Times.
A native of Newport, Rhode Island, which he still calls home, he has raced and cruised from
Antarctica to Alaska and is a veteran of the Newport-Bermuda Race, the Transpac, the Pacific
Cup and the Bermuda One-Two.
GrEGOry O. JOnES
Gregory O. Jones, Executive Editor for REED’s, is the author of The American Sailboat, }
Herreshoff Sailboats and Chapman’s Guide to Basic Powerboat Handling. He has been the edi-
tor of Classic Boat, Sailing and Blue Water Sailing magazines and is the owner of a Tartan 34c.
He is a frequent contributor to many sailing publications and with his work on Reed’s he says
he is more impressed than ever with the hard work that goes into making Reed’s the must-
have reference work of choice for the serious sailor.
DOnALD M. STrEET
Don Street is a legendary Caribbean cruiser who wrote the first cruising guides to the islands
and the coast of South America in the 1950s and 60s. Aboard his engineless yawl Iolaire, he
has spent decades exploring every corner of the Caribbean and contributing his observations
to the Imray/Iolaire line of cruising charts. Don is currently at work on a new edition of his
Trans-Atlantic Crossing Guide, which includes explanations for vessels coming from Panama
and from the U.S. to the Eastern Caribbean Islands.
MOnTy AnD SArA LEWiS
The Lewises have spent many years cruising the Bahamas in their trawler Saranade. They
are both licensed captains and the authors of the highly regarded Explorer Chartbook series
(www.explor ercharts.com). They spend their summers on the Chesapeake Bay.
PATRICIA RAINS
Patricia Rains is a licensed captain who has been cruising Mexico and Central America with
her hus band John for more than 20 years. Together, they have written numerous guides to
both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts of Central America and Mexico. Patricia regularly con-
ducts seminars on cruising in the region and has written for SEA, Cruising World and other
sailing magazines.
DAVID STRICKLAND
David Strickland is a former yacht captain and delivery skipper who has sailed extensively
in the Med, Caribbean, Bahamas and both seaboards of the US. Since 1994, he has worked as
an editor and writer for numerous marine publications, including spending 7 years as Execu-
tive Editor of Southern Boating.
TOM ZYDLER
Tom Zydler is a licensed captain who has spent many years cruising Central and South
America. He and his wife Nancy have spent many years sailing their boat, Mollymawk,
throughout the Caribbean and writing for numerous sailing and boating magazines. They are
the authors of cruising guides to Panama and to the Georgia coast.
