THE KNOWLEDGE

43

Honesty and common sense go a long way so make sure to know your market, understand as a designer where you belong in the industry, what brands you should be sitting with and therefore what price points you have to aim for. You don’t need to sit in an international room to have a great business. Know where you belong and it’s more likely that you’ll connect to the right buyers: the ones who are in line with your vision.”

PRODUCTION CHARLOTTE CLARK & NINA FERGUSON – INCA PRODUCTIONS

“Designers should be looking to hire a production company to help them with their show for their creative vision, their expertise and contacts.

A good production company will be able translate and enhance a concept into a 3D reality, have added value in the deals that they can strike and pull in some of the best specialists in the world in order to make the dream a reality.”

STYLIST SOPHIA NEOPHITOU-APOSTOLOU

“What should a designer bring to a stylist and why would I chose to take them on?

I look for a genuine creativity and passion for what they do and a 110% commitment. There has to be a level of trust between the stylist and designer that allows a free flow of creative ideas - positive and negative.

The designer should be able to trust the stylist enough to know when to let go of an idea. Sometimes ideas just don’t work and when a designer is so close to that idea they become blinded by it!

My job is always to make things better/stronger/cleaner/more believable in someone’s universe.

Some designers are afraid that commerciality can creatively compromise them, but the reality is, without the knowledge and acceptance of this, the freedom of creativity would not exist.”
