“My advice would be not to bother with a business plan as so much changes in the first few months of starting a business that they are not worth the paper they are written on. Start very small. Borrow very little money. Never rely on banks. Find someone who has small start- up business experience to mentor or support you. Be commercial. If there is one complaint I have about some of our fabulous British fashion colleges it would be that they teach students that fashion is too much about art. Fashion must also be about profit. Don’t lose sight of that. Profit means that you can go on to be very creative.”
