THANKS & ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
In the preparation of this book, Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden has been helped
by many people. We would like to thank them all for their generosity in sharing their
experience with us.
Above all we owe a huge debt of gratitude to Adam Glass, Dawn McEwen and
Catherine Rushton at Davenport Lyons. Without their enthusiasm and support, we
could not have produced ‘The Look & The Law’, which was their suggestion,
incidentally. They have not only been instrumental in assisting the Fashion Fringe at
Covent Garden team in creating this, but they have also been generous in
dedicating their time and expertise to contribute to the guide as well as being kind
enough to bear all the production costs.
A special thanks to John Rushworth and Kirsty Whittaker at Pentagram, who re-
state our look for us each year, for their cover design, which also was donated.
Although very basic, we hope that ‘The Look & The Law’ will answer some of the
many questions that have to be addressed when setting up a designer business.
We hope that, with this guide at their side, young designers wishing to start up their
own business will be able to step forward in the future with confidence and
knowledge - which is why we are especially grateful to the designers and
practitioners at all levels of fashion in London for their personal comments and tips
on how to make a successful career as a designer.
