6 v 1
Colour Cones
Why do it?
• To ensure players don’t become too static and settled in a possession activity
• To enable players to react to a stimulus and respond quickly
• To challenge players to change from 6 v 1 to 5 v 1 and 4 v 1 situations
• To encourage communication amongst players to solve problems on the pitch
How to do it?
• 6 attackers v 1 defender in a set area. 4 different coloured cones are positioned outside this area.
• The activity will last for a set period of time and the defender scores a point every time they gain
possession of the ball
• When the coach calls out a colour the player who last passed the ball must run and touch that
colour cone before joining back in
• As the players are getting used to the activity the coach will speed up the frequency of the calls
so players remaining are put under pressure
Don’t just copy it, improve it
• Call out two colours and the player must touch them in sequence
• Call two colours and the player must touch the other two colours
