Cone knock down
Why do it?
• To appreciate that possession has a purpose to build an attacking opportunity
• To develop movement off the ball to provide the passer with options
• To recognise when and when not to play a ‘killer’ pass (the pass at the cone)
How to do it?
• Two teams play possession in an area with cones spread out randomly
within the area
• The challenge is for the team to make a set number of passes and then aim to score
by knocking over a cone
Don’t copy it, improve it
• Use cones as small goals and players have to pass through the goal for a team mate
to receive the ball
• Have three teams and 2 of the teams attack with the other team on defence
• Players can knock a cone over at any time and if successful score the number of
passes made (e.g. if they managed 7 passes before knocking over the cone they
score 7 points).
